The Lotus Flower with its exceptional beauty and spiritual-symbolic energy has found an important place in our culture here in the west. The Lotus, although traditionally associated with Buddhism and eastern art, is universal in communicating a peaceful and powerful presence. It was no mistake that the brilliant spiritual minds behind those traditions adopted the Lotus as a potent visual mantra. During the creation of the Lotus suite of painting I could really feel this rarified energy and its pure potential first hand. I believe each piece radiates that same special energy.
For those of you who have been inquiring about my paintings of LOTUS — on the left is one of my absolute favorites. Giant Lotus I. This piece is a grand eight feet tall.
A work of art like this takes a many months to complete. Sometimes depending on its complexity and whatever else I am working on at the time, well over a year. Now I am in the process of the second lotus painting — Giant Lotus II and several smaller studies along with watercolor paintings on the same subject.
